Yanmar to Support the "CO2 Zero Challenge" Initiative

March 9, 2012
Yanmar Co., Ltd.

Yanmar has announced its support of the "CO2 Zero Challenge", an initiative of its sponsored soccer team Cerezo Osaka. Aimed at significantly decreasing carbon emissions, the initiative includes more environment-oriented utilization of own stadium facilities during practice and matches, as well as urging supporters to shift to transportation with a lesser impact on the environment.

With the assistance of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd and Osaka Football Club Co., Ltd (Cerezo's owner), Yanmar will offset all carbon emissions from Cerezo's home matches in 2012. The annual volume, estimated at 400~500 tons, will be offset via the Domestic Clean Development Mechanism.

The Domestic Clean Development Mechanism is a scheme that allows large enterprises to provide energy-saving technologies and funding etc., to small and medium companies involved in carbon emission reductions. The actual reduction amount is quantified and certified by specialized agencies designated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, then granted to the corporation concerned as carbon credit to be sold to the partner large enterprise.

Yanmar's participation in carbon offsetting projects that involve the Japanese Soccer League represents a first in Japan.

By continuing to develop ecological technologies and provide highly efficient gas air-conditioning systems, Yanmar is determined to further promote such initiatives, in order to actively contribute to sustainable development.
